Bromine Applications

Bromine is used widely. It is the initial product for obtaining the whole series of bromides and organic derivatives such as ethyl-bromide and dibromoethane, the constituent parts of the liquid added to petrol for increasing its antiknock value. Bromine compounds are used in photography, dye production; methyl bromide is used as insecticide. Some Bromine compounds are efficient fire extinguishers. Bromine and bromine water are used in analytical chemistry and in medicine as cure of neurosis, insomnia, hysteria, hyper irritability, hypertensive disease, epilepsy, chorea.
